Thursday, February 28, 10:30 a.m. Rebecca Youngblood Vaughn and Twenty Years in the Secret Service. While researching her parents' lives to write their story, Rebecca rediscovered the treasure-trove of mementos from her father's 20-year tenure as a high-profile Secret Service Agent, which inspired her to publish a new edition of his memoir, 20 Years in the Secret Service: My Life with Five Presidents. U.S. Secret Service Agent Rufus W. Youngblood was in charge of the vice presidential detail in Dallas when Kennedy was assassinated. Immediately upon hearing shots being fired, Youngblood pushed Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson to the floor of their limousine and shielded the vice president’s body with his own. This candid memoir includes Youngblood’s first-hand account of the Kennedy assassination and its aftermath, as well as highlights from his career during which he protected Presidents Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon.
G. J. Ford Bookshop will be selling copies of Ms Youngblood’s book at the event, and we encourage you to purchase your book there and have it signed by the author. Our local independent bookstore makes many of our author appearances possible. Too many books? Why not purchase one, read it and then donate it for our annual book sale or the library?
