  • Casino Building, Room 108 550 Beach View Drive Saint Simons Island, GA, 31522 United States (map)

Flannery O’Connor and the Southern Gothic Tradition

Lyle Roebuck will talk about the state of southern gothic literature in 2018: Who’s doing it? How does the South remain fertile literary ground? Lyle is a native of Saint Simons Island (Glynn Academy ’86). His fiction has appeared in The Arkansas Review, The Roanoke Review, Straylight Magazine, Redivider, A Torn Page: 2012 Summer Short Fiction Anthology, The Santa Ana River Review, The Timberline Review, The Arlington Literary Journal, HoosierLit, Phantom Drift, Wraparound South, and Split Lip Magazine. His first book, Phantom Sounds – Stories, is coming from Big Table Publishing this summer. Lyle has a MA from the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign and studied Classical Languages and Literatures at the University of Chicago.

G. J. Ford Bookshop will be selling copies of Mr. Roebuck's book at the event, and we encourage you to purchase your book at the coffee so you can have it signed by the author. Our local independent bookstore makes many of our author appearances possible. Too many books? Why not purchase one, read it, then donate it to our book sale or the library?
