A native of Waycross, Georgia, Joe is an award-winning former newspaper reporter and columnist whose folksy Cup of Joe ran for ten years in the Fernandina Beach News-Leader. He’s written about a plague killing Atlantic bottlenose dolphins on the East Coast in 1987. He parlayed his investigative reporting skills into a 20-year career as an investigator for the Federal Public Defender’s Office. Joe will talk about his debut novel, “A Mariner’s Tale,” the story of a cynical middle-aged mariner and his protege, a troubled young man, on a voyage of self-discovery that begins on an island in Florida and ends in an Irish fishing village.
