Coffee with Clara Silverstein

  • Casino Building, Room 108 550 Beach View Drive Saint Simons Island, GA, 31522 United States (map)

The author of four books including A White House Garden Cookbook and White Girl: A Story of School Desegregation. A long-time writer in the Boston area, she directed the well-known Chautauqua Writers’ Center from 2008 to 2017. Her first novel, Secrets in a House Divided, is forthcoming from Mercer University Press in the fall of 2018. Set in Richmond, Virginia in 1864-65, it explores the relationships between masters and slaves, husbands and wives, parents and children, as the Civil War drives them to a flash point. Though the story is set in the past, its focus on the roots of racism resonates today.

G. J. Ford Bookshop will be selling copies of Ms. Silverstein's book at the event, and we encourage you to purchase your book at the coffee so you can have it signed by the author. Our local independent book store makes many of our author appearances possible. Too many books? Why not purchase one, read it, then donate it to our book sale or the library?

This event is free to Literary Guild members. Not a member? Join here or join at the event. Guest tickets are $10 each.  Click here for tickets.
